Words of Glass

Music & Lyrics: Kirstine Birk, Michael Sprinkle & Kenneth Cooper (Nashville)

I wish I never heard it
I wish I never felt it
Wish you never said it
But you said it

Maybe we’re not meant to understand it
It wasn’t always transparent
Looking back through all that
How could we have known the damage?
It can be so cruel and

Fragile, breaking
Shattered on the floor
Once they’re spoken
they’re broken
You can’t take them back no more
Nothing hurts like that

I wanted you to tell me
What you’re really feeling
And now that you have told me
I can’t believe

Can the truth really be better than telling lies
when it hurts inside? They’re

Fragile, breaking
Shattered on the floor
Once they’re spoken
they’re broken
You can’t take them back no more
Nothing hurts like that
Those words of glass

How can they cut so deep when they can’t even seen?
Fragile, breaking…

Vibe Of The City

Music & Lyrics: Kirstine Birk & Sofia Ekberg

He’s two steps ahead of her
in his own time
she’s holding the hand of the youngest
keeping it together
showing that they’re one-of-a-kind

Down these familiar streets
They shared the first kiss
they only had eyes for each other
it’s all of these things that they miss

Oh, it’s the vibe of the city
that draws me to the center
right into the middle
where – oh – the urban heart is pounding
footprints made by dreamers
and those who know exactly where to go

oh, oh, oh – oh, oh, oh

Teenage girls walking by
in similar clothes
one of them carries a bag
with money from her mamma
and clever words as if she always knows

Really I’d do the same
if she was mine
this curious, innocent face
is bringing me straight back in time

Oh, it’s the vibe of the city…

Patterns of dreams collected
in houses and sidewalks and wide open windows
Sit on a bench and let it
just let it fly as a kite where the wind blows – break

Oh, it’s the vibe of the city…

The Sofa

Music: Kirstine Birk, Lyrics: Kirstine Birk & Helle Hansen

I remember the sofa when I was a child in the seventies
With a pattern of shapes you could trace around
with your fingers on the velvet brown

Eating chocolate and cake that my mummy made
No need to worry ‘bout leaving stains
As we were watching FAME on Saturdays

Plenty of room for the whole family
Past my bedtime mum was serving tea
Daddy fell asleep in front of the TV

Later as he woke to watch ‘Scene of the Crime’
I would bite my nails and hide behind
that big and soft pillow of mine

One day they had to move and none of them had room
for having a sofa that was oversized
it ended up in the basement of a friend of mine

Where me and my band we were hanging out
singing ’Hungry Heart’ and playing guitar
Bacardi and Coke, smoking cheap cigars

The sofa in the corner was our favorite place
Ended up with the guy who played the bass
woke up with his bad breath in my face

The drummer went to New York so the band split up
The sofa’s still in the corner, left behind
I moved it to my townhouse with that bass man of mine

It was a nest for reading stories out loud
Our children loved jumping up and down
And sometimes the neighbors would come around

And I think it happened more than twice
After we have had a stupid fight
One of us would stay there for the night

Bought a brand new sofa that will fit in our home
And now we both will have lots of room,
but it’s to far reaching over to you
If we could take back that old sofa
we loved with all it’s stories to be told
Sit real close with each other to hold in a sofa with a soul

Birds in the Trees

Music & Lyrics: Kirstine Birk

There’s a room deep in my heart
That was made for you right from the start
It will keep you warm and safe time after time

There’s so much I recognize
When I look into your trusting eyes
And how you sometimes struggle with your life

One, two, three, four and five
That’s what keeps me alive
Knowing we are family
We’re birds in the trees

Here’s the torch I’m passing on
To light your way and make you strong
And lead you to my heart from time to time

Here’s the old and white trees
It always brings me to my knees
To watch the branches reaching for the sky

One, two, three, four and five…

I’m gonna hold you through the night
You’ve got a shoulder if you need to cry
Don’t have to be bolder than you are though I see you try
Remember I told you how to get by

One, two, three, four and five
That’s what keeps me alive
Knowing we are family
We’re birds in the trees
One, two, three, four and five
That makes me shake and jive
Knowing we are family
We’re birds in the trees

Super Day for Shopping

Music & Lyrics: Kirstine Birk, Janne Mark & Maggie Walters (Austin)

Everybody wants to be what somebody already was
He’s picking out my clothes for me ‘cause I feel stuck
I don’t want to be that girl who screwed it up – for what?

This is a super day for shopping
I’m gonna spend everything I’ve got
This is a super day for shopping
Even though when the sky is grey,
I’m having fun anyway

Everybody wants to be somewhere, anywhere else
He’s telling secrets in his sleep reveals himself
The truth is coming piece by piece and I’m still stuck – for what?

This is a super day for shopping
I’m gonna spend everything I’ve got
This is a super day for shopping
even though I haven’t got a lot
This is a super day for shopping
So even when the sky is grey,
I’m having fun anyway

Shopping is one of my favourite things to do
Whenever I’m feeling blue – shopping is what I do
Shopping can really turn your day around
Whenever I’m feeling low – shopping is where I go

And this is a super day for shopping
This is a super day for shopping,
even though I haven’t got a lot
This is a super day for shopping
Even when the sky is grey, I’m having fun anyway
Even when the sky is grey, I’m having fun anyway
And this is a super day!

Our Waltz

Music: Kirstine Birk & Erin Ivey (Austin)
Lyrics: Kirstine Birk, Erin Ivey & Helle Hansen

Your hand around my waist
my reflection in your eyes
We’ve been waltzing ‘round this for some time

Where do your eyes go while we dance?
Who would you give a second glance?
Lovers are always taking chances

Do you need someone to hold?
Is there something on your mind
you never really told me?

What’s in those boxes under the bed?
Things you’re not ready to forget?
Where do you store the things you never said?

Do you need someone to hold?
Is there something on your mind
you really should have told me?

This was never our song
but with the right one in your arms
how could it possibly be wrong?
You say so much with a casual touch

Here face to face
With your arms ’round my waist
Please, don’t let go of your embrace

Let’s move the furniture around
see what we’ve dropped behind the couch
more room for dancing and for speaking out loud

Do you need someone to hold?…

Curtains

Music & Lyrics Kirstine Birk & Darden Smith (Austin)

What’s with all the teardrops?
The distance in your eyes?
Could you be afraid to let me inside?

Baby, we all have a story
they fall like drops of rain
everybody carries a secret pain

So tell me your secret
there’s no reason to hold back now
There’s no need
to keep your curtains down

I will be your witness
love will be your guide
come tomorrow morning
there’ll be nothing left to hide

So tell me your secret
there’s no reason to hold back now
and there’s no need
to keep your curtains down

If you let the light come in
chase the dark away again
the truth will always win

So tell me your secret

So tell me your secret
there’s no reason to hold back now
there’s no need
to keep your curtains down
there’s no need
to keep your curtains down

Before I Met You

Music: Kirstine Birk
Lyrics: Kirstine Birk & Helle Hansen

Before I met you it was me who ended up being hurt
And nothing seemed to go the way I planned
I wasn’t looking for a love affair, not even a flirt
Could make me dream about my lover man

You were treating me better
Than anyone that I knew

Now it’s you I’m living for
Never felt like this before
And I can’t help wanting more
Everything changed
the day that I met you

Before I found you I was giving up on loving again
I never thought I could trust anyone
Then suddenly I realised you could be more than a friend
I needed someone to rely on

Life’s been treating me better
Since you came into my world

Now it’s you I’m living for…

There was a time and there was a place
I was convinced that there was no hope at all
Out of the blue I bumped in to you, you made me fall
Never before did someone mean more to me
than you, and all at once it came clear
All I could dream of was here

Now it’s you I’m living for…

Dragonfly Tattoo

Music: Kirstine Birk
Lyrics: Kirstine Birk & Helle Hansen

At this time in life
We are trying to succeed
In love and career
And with family indeed

At this point in my life
I am trying to be
more like the person
that you see in me

Is it too late to get that dragonfly tattoo?
And is it too late for me to get closer to you?

At this time in life
We’ve got more than we need
We are free to decide
And to do as we please

At this state of mind
We are able to choose
What’s important to keep
when there’s nothing to lose

Is it too late to get that dragonfly tattoo?…

I look around
At the people I know
Are they living it up?
Are they able to grow?

I look at myself
and the things I’ve achieved
I have gained so much more
Than I ever believed I would

How ‘bout getting that dragonfly tattoo?
And how ‘bout getting closer to you?

Is it too late to get that dragonfly tattoo?

Forget We Met

Music & Lyrics: Kirstine Birk

I like you a lot
but you’ve already got
kids and wife
and a settled life

Let’s try something new
let’s change our point of view
I don’t wanna go blind
and leave it all behind

So stay away from my heart
stay away from my heart
stay away from my heart, stay away

I’ve tried it before
still I just want more
We have to admit
we’re in deep shit

So stay where you are
don’t let it come this far
we’re gonna have to forget
that we ever met

Stay away from my heart…

I’ve been waiting all my life for you to come around
There’s a point of no return where you can’t turn around
You can make it happen, you can make it all come true
what an opportunity – it all makes sense with you

Stay away from my heart
stay away from my heart
stay away from my heart, stay away
Don’t wanna tear it all apart
don’t wanna go back to the start
so stay away from my heart

Intimate Affair

Music & Lyrics: Kirstine Birk & Boris Kraft

It’s not an intimate affair
Just because I talk a lot about you
I like to be around you all the time

It’s not an intimate affair
I didn’t ask you to stay over
we just fell asleep arm in arm on the couch

Just because I miss you when you’re not there
doesn’t mean I cannot do without you

Can’t pretend we’re just friends
Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction
Guess we found our next round
Friendship turning into addiction

It’s not an intimate affair
I just had an extra ticket
I barely touched your hand in the dark

It’s not an intimate affair
Just because I call you up more often
and walked you home that night in the rain

Just because I miss you when you’re not there
doesn’t mean I cannot do without you

Can’t pretend we’re just friends…

It’s not an intimate affair – It’s not an intimate affair

Just because I miss you when you’re not there
doesn’t mean I cannot do without you

Can’t pretend we’re just friends…

It’s not an intimate affair

Grew up in a Town

Music:: Kirstine Birk, Helene Bak & Line Bøgh
Lyrics: Kirstine Birk, Helene Bak, Line Bøgh & Helle Hansen

I grew up in a town no different from this one
I’ve been moving around, I’ve been staying away
Never knew exactly where I was going
Never knew exactly where to stay

I grew up in a home with high expectations
Of what I should do, and who I should be
Never understood their ways of thinking
Longing for the day that I’ll be free.

And now I’ve lost all track of time
I left it far behind
I’m stuck here in between
I’ve stripped away the start
I’ll try to let my heart
Lead me to my dream

I would promise myself to follow my heartbeat
I was scared to be left with nowhere to go
Couldn’t figure out just what to look for
Never thought I’d find it here with you

You made me lose all track of time
leave it all behind
Happy somewhere in between
I’ve stripped away the start
now I know my heart
Has lead me
To where I lose all track of time
leave it all behind
Happy somewhere in between
Strip away the start
knowing that my heart
Has lead me to my dream

I grew up in a town no different from this one
