Kirstine Birk is ready with her fourth release – ‘Words Of Glass’.
The Aarhu based singer and songwriter Kirstine Birk will release her upcoming album ‘Words Of Glass’ in at Musikhuset Aarhus, Saturday 22.2.2020 at. 12.00.
For the release concert, Michael Vestbo participates on western and electric guitar, Jesper Smalbro on electric and double bass, and Jens Kristian Dam on drums. John Kjøller, Helene Bak and Cathrine Klit sings backup vocals.
The album consists of a collection of songs written partly by Kirstine herself and in collaboration with other songwriters from home and abroad, including traveling to the two music cities of Austin and Nashville in the United States.
The inspiration from the American singer/songwriter tradition shines through on the album’s total of 12 songs, each with their own expression, while at the same time forming a single, long personal narrative. There is both strength and vulnerability in the texts and production.
On ‘Words Of Glass’ Kirstine Birk’s vocals and piano playing are accompanied by the critically acclaimed, Aarhus based ‘Vestbo Trio’, which in addition to guitarist Michael Vestbo himself consists of Jesper Smalbro (Northern Assembly) on electric and double bass and drummer Eddi Jarl Sørensen (Lilholt Band MFL).
Kirstine Birk has both a solid live experience and three releases behind her. The debut album ‘On A Day Like This’, got great reviews in GAFFA and Politiken and she has had radio airplay with a number of singles on DR’s P4. Her second solo album ‘Patience’, was selected as ‘Music of the Week’ in ‘Alt For Damerne’ under the heading: ‘Patience pays off’.
Most recently, in 2018, she released the EP ‘On The Flipside’ in collaboration with songwriting colleague Helene Bak, who is also contributing to the new album.
On YouTube you can see Kirstine Birk: ‘Kitchen session’, which is a half hour live concert recorded in her kitchen in Malling.
The singer and songwriter has played with Michael Vestbo over the past few years. They have warmed to names like Lis Sørensen and Nashville songwriter Josh Rouse when he played at Atlas last year. It was here, backstage, they agreed that Kirstine’s songs and Vestbo Trio’s sound would be a super match.
On a few intense days in June 2019, the music was recorded live, with all the instruments in the same room, in Aabyroad Studio by Dennis Ahlgren, who in addition to contributing as a studio musician has also produced and mixed the album.
‘Words Of Glass’ will be available through Gateway Music on all streaming services on Friday, February 21st, 2020. The release is supported by Aarhus Municipality’s Music Fund, DPA and KODA.
